Being
born the second oldest out of five children in a single
parent household, Xochitl Panduro, because of life's
circumstances endured various hardships that continuously cause
many young ladies to live a life of confusion and rejection.
Rejected
by her mother, she looked for love in all the wrong places,
which resulted in numerous abusive relationships that had her
believing that being loved equaled abuse. Xochitl grew up
in the impoverished community of Boyle Heights in East Los
Angeles, a gang infested area, which easily constructed her
social circle with gang members, confused young ladies, drug
dealers and more. Not being a member of a gang yet seeking
acceptance by members of gangs, Xochitl, dropped out of high
school twice and engulfed herself in a destructive
lifestyle. Never physically incarcerated yet mentally
incarcerated, Xochitl found herself emotionally crippled by the
life she was living.
At the age of 22 Xochitl
became a proud mother of a beautiful baby girl, which
marked a pivotal point in her life where she made a conscious
decision to free herself of everything and anything that was
stunting her growth. Determined to improve her impoverished
situation, she enrolled herself into East Los Angeles Community
College and went on to transfer to the University of California
Los Angeles where she graduated magna cumm laude and
attained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She is
currently attending the University of Southern California where
she is pursuing a Masters in Social Work. Xochitl uses her
experience and education in hopes to helping enrich and empower
the lives of the people she works with.
