Johnny B Stein was born in Houston, Texas; he relocated to the San Francisco, CA on July 15, 1961. Also of note, 1961 was the year that he started his career working for San Francisco Municipal Railway. In 1989 he became General Manager of MUNI capping a long and distinguished career as a public servant. After 5 years as general manager, and a total of 33 years of service to the city and county of San Francisco, he retired.

Johnny became a member of the San Francisco Center Church on May 8, 1973. He served as president of the men’s fellowship from 1976-1979. He was elected to the board of directors at the San Francisco Christian Center in 1976 where he served as treasurer for over ten years. After completing his BA in 1993, he was licensed and ordained to the ministry.

In April of 1983 he began working with Prison Fellowship, Inc. as a bible teacher, later that year he traveled to Reston, Virginia for formal training as a seminar instructor for Prison Fellowship. Johnny has worked in many different prisons such as Duel Vocational Institution at Tracy, CA, Dublin Federal Prison at Pleasanton, CA, Hidden Valley Federal Prison at La Honda CA, California State Prison, San Quentin at San Quentin, CA. He has an ongoing ministry in San Quentin & Dublin prisons several times each month.
